The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is organizing the 7th UNWTO Global Summit on Urban Tourism: A 2030 Vision for Urban Tourism, on 16-19 September, in Seoul, Republic of Korea, jointly with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, the Korea Tourism Organization and the Seoul Tourism Organization. 

The Summit provides a unique platform to discuss the key issues shaping the future of urban tourism in the context of the 2030 Urban Agenda. It brings together high-level representatives from National Tourism Administrations, city authorities and related stakeholders, serving as a platform to exchange experiences and expertise and set a shared vision on urban tourism that embraces innovation, digital transformation and sustainability.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), at the kind invitation of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Tourism of Romania is organizing the "International Conference on Integrated Quality Management in Tourism Destinations: A Key to Competitiveness” on 23 -24 June, 2016 in Bucharest.

OBJECTIVES OF THE CONFERENCE:

  • To provide a comprehensive understanding of the integrated quality management in tourism destinations ,
  • To explore an interdisciplinary platform on how to launch and implement “destination quality systems” with the involvement of all the stakeholders,
  • To exchange experience and expertise among different types of destinations on how to build the culture of quality, define quality indicators, launch customer surveys and develop the necessary tools for monitoring.

THEMES COVERED:

  • A conceptual framework for quality management in tourism destinations, the difference between “destination quality” and the “product/service quality”.
  • Success stories of quality management in: Spa/wellness destinations, industrial heritage destinations, cultural heritage destinations, mountain tourism, protected areas, quality in the meetings industry, etc. 

TARGETED PARTICIPANTS:

  • National Tourism Administrations/Organizations, 
  • UNWTO Affiliate Members, 
  • Local authorities, municipalities and international and/ or regional associations/networks of local authorities, 
  • Convention Bureaus,

The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro hold the 2nd Conference on Destination Management in the Mediterranean in Budva, Montenegro (22-24 June 2015).

OUTCOME:

  • The Conference created a collaborative platform on which the Mediterranean destinations jointly explored the keys to success in the process of enhancing competitiveness and achieving a high "quality visitor experience" of the Mediterranean which represents one of the most important tourism regions in the world and accounts for one in three international tourists worldwide and over a quarter of total tourism receipts.

First Pan-African Conference on sostainable tourism

At the gracious invitation of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, the World Tourism Organization was organizing the First Pan-African Conference on Sustainable Tourism Management in National Parks and Protected Areas: Challenges and Opportunities in Arusha from 15 to 18 October 2012. The Conference was being organized in collaboration with the Tanzanian Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.

ComillasNature-based tourism or eco-tourism is a large and growing global industry, partially dependent upon the attributes of the natural environment and biodiversity wildlife and scenery which represent one of Africa’s strategic competitive advantages as a destination.

The conference aimed to encourage professional approach to better position “park tourism” as one of the core components of overall national park management in Africa and to acquire an overview of the current challenges in terms of demand and supply chain. Furthermore new partnerships and business models shall impulse re-engineering of park management structures in order to maximize the economics and social benefits to the local communities.

The town of Arusha, Tanzania is the country’s safari capital located in the north of the country. It has a population of 427,185 (2005 est.). This city is located on a plateau in the Great Rift Valley amidst the Serengeti plains, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, Tarangire National Park, and Mount Kilimanjaro.

Effective Governance in Tourism Destination Development

 In the framework of the VI International Tourist Exhibition “Intourmarket 2011” the Ministry of Sports, Tourism and
Youth Policy of the Russian Federation, the Federal Agency for Tourism and the UNWTO will hold a joint seminar
with the title “Effective Governance in Tourism Destination Development” on 14 March 2011.  
   During the upcoming event officials from the UNWTO and leading international experts will talk about success
stories of effective governance and destination development, highlighting the planning, positioning and promotion
of tourist destinations. In addition, they will highlight the role of Public-Private Partnerships in tourism destination
development.  
   Officials from National Tourism Administrations, tourist companies, hotels and other types of accommodations,
specialized educational institutions, tourism associations, and representatives of Russian and foreign tourism
authorities will be invited to this event.
