On 16 and 17 April 2012 in Djerba, Tunisia, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) held the 6th International Conference on Destination Management, devoted to the future of tourism in the Mediterranean.

The Conference resulted in the Djerba Declaration which laid the basis for separate further events dedicated to the Mediterranean Tourism. The current 2nd Conference on Destination Management in the Mediterranean further continues the topic of prospects and challenges of tourism development in the Mediterranean region with a special focus on quality as the key driver for success.


The 2nd UNWTO Conference on Destination Management in the Mediterranean will be held from 22 to 24 June 2015. The Conference will be held in Budva, situated on the central part of Montenegrin coast and called "Budvanska Rivijera". It has developed around a small peninsula, on which the old town is situated. It is by far most visited destination in Montenegro, boasting beautiful marina views, ancient architecture and a developed tourism infrastructure.

Splendid Conference & SPA Resort, the largest conference venue in Montenegro, is situated 3 kilometres away from the touristic capital of Montenegro, Budva, stays on the sea front and has its own private beach.


Participation at the Conference is free of charge and is carried out at the following website: Participants are kindly requested to register online by 10 June 2015 on the official website of the Conference indicating all the required information including travel and accommodation details which will be further used to organize transfer and pick-up service.

Identification badges will be issued at the venue of the Conference – Hotel Splendid Conference & Spa Resort - to all those who have duly completed their online registration form.

The Host country will take the necessary steps to facilitate the arrival, stay and departure of all participants invited by the Organization.

During their stay, participants will enjoy the privileges and immunities accorded to delegates in events of UNWTO, in accordance with the provisions of the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the Specialized Agencies of the United Nations.


EU countries citizens do not require visa. Foreign citizens for whom an entry visa to Montenegro is required may apply for a Montenegrin visa at the competent diplomatic or consular post of Montenegro in a foreign country. In countries where Montenegro has no diplomatic or consular post, Montenegrin visa applications may be submitted to the Serbian diplomatic or consular post.

The working languages of the Conference are English, French, Montenegrin and Spanish. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in these languages. At the entrance of the conference hall, headphones will be distributed and should be returned at the end of each session.



Transfers from airports Podgorica (TGD), Tivat (TIV) and Dubrovnik (DBV) will be provided upon request.

The special price negotiated for participants of the UNWTO Conference on Destination Management in the Mediterranean is 20.00 € /per person/per direction for Podgorica and Tivat airports.

-          Tivat Airport is 20km away.

-          Podgorica Airport is 65km away, and has flights throughout the year to Belgrade, Budapest, Zurich, Frankfurt, Ljubljana, Paris, Rome, Vienna and London- Gatwick.

-          Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) in Dubrovnik, Croatia is 80km away from Budva, and maintains flights to many European        destinations throughout the year, providing a good alternative to the Montenegrin airports. A taxi from Dubrovnik Airport to       Budva will cost €90.

  • By bus:

Budva is very well connected by bus with cities within Montenegro and major cities in neighboring countries. The bus station is a 20 minute walk from the old town.

  • By car:

Budva can be reached by car using the coast road, which is in good condition. Travelling from Dubrovnik, this can take less than 2 hours depending on traffic.

During the Conference shuttle buses shall be organized from Avala Resort & Villas and Hotel Slovenska Plaža to the venue of the Conference (Hotel Splendid Conference and Spa Resort).

Transportation shall also be organised for the Gala Dinner and Technical Visit.

If you want to spend a nice day in the old town of Kotor (under UNESCO protection) which is encircled by ancient walls and discover the most southern fjord in Europe you can join us on this excursion. We travel by coach to Kotor with a guide and it will take us about 40 minutes. A walking tour in the Old Town of Kotor is perfect, if you only have a little time, to see the beautiful Renaissance buildings. The well preserved fortified walls of Kotor protect it from the sea and nearly 3 kilometers long they are considered one of the world’s historic values.

You will also visit the Cathedral of St. Tryphon which was constructed in 1166 and built on the remains of a former temple from the 9th century. You will see the remains from 14th century frescos and the valuable treasury with both local and Venetian golden works dating from the 14th to the 20th centuries (guided tour - 40 minutes). After sightseeing tour you can walk back to the pier or enjoy free time on your own (one hour).

  • Local currency and exchange rates: The official currency in Montenegro is the EURO (€), which has been used as the currency since 2002. Currency exchange can be carried out at the commercial banks and the foreign currency exchange offices.
  • Climate: Budva has a typical Mediterranean climate with mild but rainy winters and very warm and dry summers. In the coastal region, protected by the high mountainous hinterlands, the climate conditions are even milder and more pleasant. In June begins the summer – daytime temperatures grow to 25-32 degrees and the water is heated to 22 degrees and swimming is very nice.
  • Local time in Budva: Budva belongs to the Central European Time (CET) zone (GMT+1). European Summer Time is in effect between the end of March and the end of October (GMT+2).
